Women Want Access To A More Accurate Mammogram. Now There Is One!
Genius™ 3D Mammography™ is now available at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center
What is a Genius™ 3D Mammography™ Exam?
It is a superior, more accurate mammogram. In fact, it is the only mammogram proven to produce more accurate results compared to a conventional mammogram. It is the biggest breakthrough in breast cancer detection in 30 years.
What Makes It Different?
A Genius™ exam is very much similar to having a conventional mammogram but it is proven to be more accurate. Like a conventional mammogram, the technologist will position you, compress your breast and take images from different angles.
The difference is that the Genius™ exam captures multiple images or slices of the breast from several angles, creating a multi-layered breast image. Your doctor is then able to review your breast, one thin layer at a time, almost like turning pages in a book, which helps them make a more accurate diagnosis.*
*Compared to 2D mammography alone, Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exams are only available on the Hologic Selenia Dimensions system.

Screening vs. Diagnostic
Screening mammograms are annual exams done for women with no symptoms. The aim is to screen all eligible women for signs of breast cancer. We recommend following the Society for Breast Imaging and American College of Radiology guidelines: yearly mammograms starting at age 40, if of average risk. No doctor's order is required. These are covered without cost to you by insurance.
Diagnostic mammograms are done for women with breast symptoms (pain, lump, breast discharge, etc.) or in women with breast cancer found in the last 5 years. A doctor's order is required, and insurance coverage varies. At times, additional imaging such as ultrasound or extra mammographic views may be required. At our clinics (for diagnostic exams only), these can be done the same day, allowing you to leave with results in hand.
