Fort Walton Beach, Fl — Fort Walton Beach Medical Center officially opened its new ER Canopy on October 14, 2015 that was built in preparation of the trauma verification process which started June 1st, and to accommodate more ambulances. Senator Don Gaetz, Representative Matt Gaetz, Okaloosa County first responders, city and county officials and chamber representatives joined the leadership of Fort Walton Beach Medical Center to officially open the new ER Canopy, which became operational immediately following the ceremony.
In the past seven months, Fort Walton Beach Medical Center has recruited trauma surgeons, added two trauma bays in the ER, and have also certified over 135 nurses specific to trauma care. Since June 2015, an average of 100 patients a month have received some form of trauma care at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
Over 100 people were in attendance Wednesday, including city officials, first responder teams, area chambers of commerce and employees.
