Fort Walton Beach, FL – Fort Walton Beach Medical Center closed on 1.2 acres of land Monday, December 21st for construction of a new 9,300 square foot free-standing ER in Destin. The new ER will be part of Fort Walton Beach Medical Center’s emergency services. Construction is expected to start late February or early March.

The new ER will be located at Hwy 98 and Tequesta Drive and will include eight emergency exam rooms, CT, X-ray and an on-site laboratory. The new Destin ER is expected to be complete by the end of 2016. The location will offer improved visibility by being located at a major intersection along Highway 98 as well as offer more coverage from the western edge of Okaloosa County into Walton County. Population growth in Destin is projected to be 9.40% by 2019 so this new ER will offer a much needed improvement for the community.

“The new ER in Destin will allow us to deliver emergency care right where many of our patients and families live,” said Mitch Mongell, Fort Walton Beach Medical Center’s CEO. “It will offer the same expert and compassionate care we deliver throughout the region, but in a more convenient setting for our patients in Destin.” The new ER in Destin comes at a good time as Fort Walton Beach Medical Center was just voted Best Medical Center/Hospital in Destin.
