Fort Walton Beach Medical Center announces the opening of its New Pediatric Emergency Room, the only one of its kind in the tri-county area including Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa Counties. The Pediatric ER is a separate emergency room open 24/7 that is dedicated solely to treating the emergency health care needs of infants, children and adolescents from birth to 15 years of age.
In partnership with the Gulfarium and its staff of artists, the new Pediatric ER has been transformed into an ocean of vibrant sea creatures. Each of the ER treatment areas has a theme supported by Dolphins, Sea Lions, Sea Horses, Turtles, Puffer Fish, Eels, and Crabs. We are truly appreciative of the art work the Gulfarium and its artists have done to make our new Pediatric ER so pleasant for the children in our community, stated Pam Aud, Director of Emergency Services at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, it will certainly reduce the level of stress of children and parents as soon as they come into the ER.
In addition to the aquarium-like décor that creates a fun and calming environment for patients, the Pediatric ER recognizes that childrens medical emergencies require a special level of care. Our child friendly clinicians are trained to help children cope with medical emergencies. With the new Pediatric ER, we have dedicated space and staff to work with patients and families in providing them with specialized pediatric care in a more comfortable environment.
