ADVANCED PRIMARY STROKE CENTER
Welcome to the Advanced Primary Stroke Center at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. Being certified as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission since 2008 allows us to offer you expertise in the treatment of stroke care. We are dedicated to promoting the health of patients and members of our community. For you, this means that we will provide you the highest level of stroke care based on national guidelines (Get With The Guidelines) established by the American Heart/Stroke Association.
Strokes can either be ischemic or hemorrhagic. Symptoms of stroke that occur but quickly resolve are referred to as a Transient Ischemic Attack or TIA. If you are experiencing signs and symptoms of stroke act quickly, time is brain. By activating the emergency response system (911), they will bring you straight to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center to begin the diagnosing and treatment process. The Stroke Team will work diligently to start the treatment plan that best suites your symptoms. It is important to be aware of your risk factors for stroke since 80% of strokes can be prevented by strict control of those risk factors.
In certain cases, post stroke rehabilitation is necessary and can also be provided at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. Both outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation is available.
Fort Walton Beach Medical Center is proud to sponsor the Folks with Strokes Support Group. The group is for those who have had a stroke, their family members and those who want to prevent stroke.
